2020 YOGA RETREAT THEME:  YOGA, MEDITATION, YOGA PHILOSOPHY with a NUTRITION WORKSHOP & 1:1 Nutrition Clinic

2020 will be our 9th year hosting our summer yoga retreat at Bala Brook. Our retreats on Dartmoor are always a highlight of our year.

Each year we refine and develop our retreat offering and for 2020 the focus will be going deeper into our yoga practice. We will host yoga sessions and lead meditation sessions across the weekend. There will be a Walking Meditation taking us up onto the Moor so that we can experience the wonderful landscape and immerse yourself in your meditation practice.

Julie Bladon (Jayadevi) and Jackie Dorrian (Jagdambe Ma), who will teach yoga classes in a variety of styles including Akhanda Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Scaravelli Yoga, Sivananda Yoga and Yoga Nidra. This mixed programme is perfect if you are starting your yogic journey and wish to explore different styles or if you are more experienced and wish to immerse yourself in your practice.

We are pleased to announce our retreat workshop will be hosted by Lesley Harper, Devon based Nutritional Therapist.

Workshop: Stress and Adrenal Health
What happens to our body when we are exposed to dietary, emotional or physical stressors? This workshop will include information on the key nutrients needed to support a chronic stress response, and how poor digestion, disrupted sleep patterns, where we store fat on the body, and chronic inflammatory conditions can have their root in ongoing stress. This session will give you some tools to optimise your diet and lifestyle at this time to help you reduce the long-term negative impact that stress can have.

There will be the opportunity to book a 1:1 clinic appointment with Lesley at the retreat (booked as an optional extra). Availability will be limited during the retreat due to the busy schedule so book early to guarantee an appointment on the weekend. It is possible to book these sessions for outside of the retreat, meeting in person in Exeter or Topsham or via Skype if you live further afield.

We understand that life can be busy and stressful so this weekend is a perfect opportunity to take care of self, replenish, rejuvenate, relax and to have time to “just be”. We will take a deeper look at yogic practices across the weekend.

Bala Brook is set in a stunning location. You will have time to dive into the extensive library of yoga and spiritual books, explore the gardens, walk on Dartmoor and maybe take a dip in the river! You can even spend time in the yoga studio meditating or doing your own self practice.

In your personal practice time, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your yoga practice and experiences. You will have ample time to reconnect with nature and the beautiful Dartmoor countryside.

Delicious, fresh and wholesome food will be lovingly prepared and served for you by our wonderful cook, Christine. The menu will be vegetarian but please advise if you have specific dietary requirements. We kindly ask that you give plenty of notice of dietary requirements as Christine pre-plans the menus, shops for ingredients locally and we take everything with us to the retreat centre. Please note that once we are on retreat we are in a remote location meaning that access to shops is extremely limited.

The rooms will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The price includes all yoga tuition by both Yoga Teachers, the Nutrition workshop, accommodation, bed linen & towels, food & refreshments. The nutrition 1:1s are an optional extra, please pre-book where possible if you wish to guarantee a clinic appointment with Lesley during the weekend.

Your hosts will be Julie Bladon (www.juliebladon.com) and Jackie Dorrian (www.swanseayoga.co.uk).

We look forward to seeing you there!

Spaces are limited so booking early is strongly recommended!

Bookings are open now, email info@swanseayoga.co.uk. Non-refundable deposit of £100 required to secure your booking; monthly payment plans are available if you wish to spread the cost. Please ask for details of the monthly payment plan.

Namaste

Lesley Harper (Guest Speaker)
Lesley Harper is a Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Like many others who come into the profession, Lesley’s own health issues led her to explore nutritional therapy as a viable alternative to mainstream treatments. Having significantly benefitted from nutritional therapy herself, Lesley’s interest in the subject matter was ignited. Nutritional therapy allowed Lesley to take control of her issues and, after a ten year engineering career, she made the decision to retrain in order to practise and promote the development of nutritional therapy.

Lesley has been providing consultations to individuals and workshops to various organisations since 2009. She is also course tutor for Natural Healthcare College’s Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy Diploma. For seven years, Lesley ran nutrition workshops for one of the UK’s longest running fitness retreats. In 2018, she completed the Institute for Functional Medicine’s “Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice” training – ensuring that her clinical practice meets the highest possible evidence-based standards.
